[US] Still life with bricks competition

Posted by ,

New LEGO licensee Chronicle Books is publishing a range of books, stationery and puzzles in April that are aimed squarely at adults.

One of the books, LEGO Still Life with Bricks: The Art of Everyday Play "recreates objects and scenes from everyday life using LEGO bricks" and to tie-in with its release the publisher is launching a competition called the LEGO Still Life Challenge:

"Starting today, you can take the LEGO Still Life Challenge to create a LEGO masterpiece – without connecting any bricks. Participants can share a photo of their own artistic creation on Twitter or Instagram for a chance to win prizes, including a grand prize to win all eight new products in the LEGO + Chronicle Books line and a $250 LEGO gift card."

Find out how to enter, and view some spreads from the book for inspiration, after the break.

How to enter:

  • Compose your own "still life" scene using only unconnected LEGO bricks
  • Share a photo in a public Instagram or Twitter post with hashtags #LEGOStillLife and #ChroniclexLEGO
  • Enter for a chance to win prizes by filling out the form on chroniclebooks.com/LEGO.

The key here, then, is unconnected, which isn't how most people build with LEGO, of course! Here are examples what they have in mind:

You have until the 23rd of March to enter and, unfortunately for many, you need to be a US resident.

Entries will be judged by the design team in LEGO's model shop in Enfield.

The book can be pre-ordered from Amazon.com | Amazon.co.uk and we hope to review it soon.

By in Canada,

I was reading with excitement, already thinking of possible ideas to submit as I scrolled down through the sample pictures... until I reached the part that says: "unfortunately for many, you need to be a US resident".

Bummer.

^ I'll add some clarity to the title.

By in Netherlands,

I... uhm, I just can’t... think of something without... connecting bricks. It looks cool, but not for me.

Good luck though to y’all US residents with this competition if this is something for you :)

I’ve built a few times without connecting bricks. It requires a different skill set but it’s still just as fun and challenging.

By in United States,

Do you know if we’re allowed to enter multiple times? Or do multiple builds?

This is... interesting. I'll have to think about what I could do.

I’ve never done anything like this, and probably won’t enter. But it does get me thinking About in the future doing some of these. They make for some aesthetically pleasing shots.

By in United Kingdom,

I'm told one entry per person.

By in Australia,

Shame I’m not in the US. But then again I hardly use social media anyway. If this was on Lego Ideas it would be much easier.

I love the stationery!

Looking forward to seeing peoples' entries...

By in Canada,

Might be an idea Brickset could do as a contest at some time. Relatively accessible as you don't need any specific bricks.

"Using only unconnected LEGO bricks". Completely uninteresting to me- it could be done with any random small pieces of whatever.

Is this licensee in addition to DK books or have they taken over the licence?

In addition. I presume DK will continue publishing kids' books, while Chronicle will publish adult ones.
